ARE EYELASH EXTENSIONS WORTH IT?

Eyelash extensions have become a new craze the past few years. Girls all around with baby lashes that cease to stay curled flocked to stores to get individual lashes glued on. I am definitely one of these girls. No shame! They save time in the mornings, you always look awake, and are super easy to take care of. Right? If you were considering getting extensions, stick around to see my personal experience with extensions.

Extensions can be synthetic or mink, and are divided into 3 categories → Classics, Hybrid, and Volume
Depending on which factors your prefer, prices differ. They usually start at $40 and go up. Fills are requried every few weeks which are usually cheaper your original first time set.

Classics = one lash is glued to one natural lash (1:1 ratio)
Hybrid = one lash is glued to one, then two lashes are glued to the next one
Volume = minimum of 2 lashes glued to one

Pros of extensions :

-saves SO much time getting ready
-always looking awake and sexy!
-no damage to lashes unlike mascara!

Cons of extensions :

-can be pricey, it's a monthly investment
-proper cleansing routine needed, baby shampoo to rinse at night and daily combing with a spoole
-if done incorrectly, can irritate the eye

I would suggest carefully researching a good lash tech with positive reviews to do your extensions. Honestly I would say give extensions a try because you never know, you might just fall in love with them like I did! It's definitely an investment and takes time to care for it, but you get use to it after a while it and becomes part of your lifestyle. But PLEASE do your research. Lots of unexperienced lash techs use too much glue and it clumps at the root of your lashes, therefore damaging them. However a professional tech will NOT do that and knows the perfect amount of glue to use.

How to: Find inspiration when your drained out!

                                How to get Inspired!

Being a content creator, ideas must constantly be flowing out in order for me to create posts, pictures, and videos. However, even I need some boosts and things that will stimulate my right brain, so here are the things I do when I need a lil inspo in my life.

1. Go for a walk (anywhere!)
Plug in your earphones (or don’t :) ) and walk around the park, downtown or take a little time to go into museums! People watch and mindlessly watch around. Bring a little notebook and write down ideas as you go.

2. Scroll the interwebs
Apps like tumblr, weheartit, or clothing brand stores ALWAYS have photos that inspire me. I especially like Nanushka, OakandFort, Rouge, and accounts like @palodeep, @sleepyfilm, @nycbambi, @stylemefresh, to give me some motivation.

3. Read magazines
I cannot stress the importance of reading, so why not gain some creativity while your at it? I like reading fashion magazines like Vogue, Elle, Harpars Bazaar, as they have amazing editorials and articles to read. I also like going on their youtube channels and watching little videos that they make. Absolutely the best way to spend Friday nights.

4. Listen to music or podcasts
You know how some music makes you wanna dance, or go for a run, or do something productive? Well some music can also make you want to do something CREATIVE. This varies though, for me, I get inspired listening to jazz music but for you it could be hip hop, rap, classical! As for podcasts, I love Fashion No Filter by Camille Charriere and Monica Ainley, and The ultimate health podcast as well!

5. Draw (or attempt to)
Pull out a drawing book, or lined paper, and just let your hand draw whatever it wants to draw. You don’t even have to be good at it, think of something and draw it! This just allows your thoughts to be presented on something visually. If drawing isn’t your calling, you can also write lists or a poem!

I hope these tips help you in producing more creative ideas. Sometimes ideas don’t flow out no matter what I do, and those are the times I make some avocado toast and watch Friends. Don’t stress out about it, let the ideas find YOU.

the oily, acne prone skincare routine + products to try out!

how to get rid of oily, acne prone skin - natural and store bought

Before
Acne. It happens to all of us! Some more than others, and I can assure you I’m definitely on the other side of clear skin.

After (2 months)

Fortunately, my skin has become unimaginably better than it was a few months ago, and I thought I would share those tips with you guys!

I’ve created a list of products (diy and store-bought) and also a Step by Step daily skin care routine. I do recommend you to go to a dermatologist to see what your skin is allergic
to. Items with a star are the products I have myself, used!

Cleansing Oils
-Rosehip Oil

Face Washes/Exfoliators

Toner
-Apple cider vinegar + water
-Mario Badescu Rose water ($9) ( or make your own!)

Moisturizers
-Aloe Vera Gel

Spot Treatments
-Apple Cider Vinegar
-Tea Tree Oil

Serums

Masks
-honey, lemon juice, cinnamon

Daily skincare routine (outline)
1.Cleanse your skin. Wash your hands before, use a cleanser of your choice and massage over your face, in one motion and the other. Use your palms on large surface areas, and fingers in the small crevices. ( Exfoliate 2x a week, don’t add additional pressure)

2.  Toner. Either use your hands and pat into your face, or use a cotton pad and gently swipe over your face. Toner helps balance your skins PH levels.

3. Serum. Serum regenerates your skin, so squeeze a bit onto your hands and pat/rub onto your face.

4.  Spot treatment. Use your choice of spot treatment on your acne, and go to sleep! Overnight, the product will seep into your pimples and destroy bacteria.

Additional tips!

-don’t touch your face! Your hands are quite dirty :(
-eat healthy! Nourish yourself from the inside-out
-sun protection! The sun damages your skin cells

-drink water, focus on hydration, no matter how oily your skin is!

good luck!

Winter Mood Board ( My First Post!)

Winter 2017 MoodBoard

Winter has come extremely early for us here in Vancouver. That means I can drink hot matcha green tea lattes, sweat by the fireplace, bake cookies and buy winter clothing earlier than usual and i’m not complaining!

I thought I would share with you all my moodboard of this season. This is also a great segue (but not really) - this is my first post! I’m so thrilled to be kickstarting my blog. This has been a dream of mine since I was taught to cook quinoa properly. I’m going to share my fashion tips, recipes, thoughts and adventures here on TheVintageCut. I’m glad you all will be part of my journey.
Enough rambling, lets move on to the good stuff. My top clothing picks of this season are:

Something about these latest trends make me think about back in 50’s, walking down NYC, eating a bagel and spilling coffee over my clean white blouse. Imperfectly perfect. I’ve linked where you can buy these gems of the season ( just click on the names above!)

The snow pictures really spoke to me. Mainly because it reminded me of the time I cried on a ski lift in whistler because IT WAS TOO COLD. But I kinda liked it. The frost on the plants, icy wind blowing in your rosy face, and how everything is so bright once snow has fallen. Its kind of an all or nothing thing for me =O

That’s it for now. Have fun in whatever weather it is for you in your city.
